Timepass to a thought!

I have always liked traveling in a bus. I have traveled in bus on my own from my 10th. There are so many funny and uncomfortable situations you land up in. The tough time you have asking the plump lady to take her sandals off your feet, the “god-bless” you get when you get up for an old or pregnant lady, the peace in the chaos, the happiness of dozing off, the smile while reading a book, the pleasure of listening to music, and the fact that some people you meet there make you think sometimes. I had one such conversation today.

I happened to get a seat today and was happily reading a book. One girl sits next to me. As Indiranagar approaches, I put away the book and gaze outside the window.

The conversation was started by her.

She : Which book is that?

Me : It’s “The Search” about google and search engines.

She : Oh!

Me : (Smile)

She : Where do you work ?

Me : I work in a company here in Indiranagar.

(A small pause there)

Me : What have you studied ?

She : I have done my B.Com.

Me : From?

She : N.M.K.R.V (She tries to explain it to me , its in Jayanagar and all that stuff, I tell her that I know)

Me : What do you do now?

She : Stay at home.

Me : Waiting to get married ?

She : Yes, they are looking for a guy. (Smiles very much)

Me : (I start asking whether the bus takes a right near KFC and she asks me to get down at the next stop.)

That left me in a wonder. Whether I would be so happy about marriage. I never was(when the topic comes I mean :) ). The responsibility, commitment and adjustment. . .

  1. Isn’t ‘Waiting to get married?’ a kind of a rude question? I don’t know how girls think but I felt that that was analogous to telling her- ‘you r good for nothing. Why not get married and serve ur man?’. Anyways, nice post. Interesting to see that people are happy and welcoming about getting married at a young age.
By the way, don’t you think that marriage gives greater freedom to a girl to pursue whatever she wishes? I mean, you can easily quit your job and become a govt. school teacher if u wish to. (Assuming that u get married to a well-paid guy) On the other hand, men have to ensure that they are in high paying job irrespective of whether they r enjoying it or not, just to keep his wife, children and father-in-law happy. Sad!

  2. Waiting to get married was just a question. No bad intent as such.

I agree that the guy has to provide for his family irrespective of whether he likes his job or not and the fact that the gal can choose what she wants. This is the guy’s point of view.
Now seeing from my point of view, it all boils down to what kinda guy you land up with and how much his family supports you to pursue your dreams.

  3. where do you work?

  4. Global Exchange Services . . you?

  5. Anyone looking for a househusband? I can cook, I can clean, I am an expert in interior designing, I am home-loving, god-fearing, I love gardening… (Ok. I made the last one up.)

  6. ha ha. . No one game for it I guess! :P

  7. i expected much longer conversations from women.. even thejas’s thoughts abt his so called “bus friends” have been longer..
and i agree with thejas, asking that marriage question is a bit brazen.. wouldnt dare ask to a stranger

  8. u guys wouldn’t and cant ask of course. . and it was with no bad intent or to demean her. .

  9. I love taking the bus too. It’s fun to start up random conversation’s with people, who you will most likely never see again. XD

  10. Yeah that’s true. . Traveling in Bus is so much fun without the pain of concentrating on the road as while riding vehicle and you can have fun too! :)
